Bitch, bitch, bitch

I envisioned my blog to have more humour but I find I'm bitching quite a bit. So lets have a bit of fun.
Royal blood lines, has anyone done a check on this? Do royals have different blood? Please tell me how a country like England still thinks having a Queen or King is good? One thing I know for sure, Queen Elizabeth sure wants to hang on so her ear flapping son does not get the crown.
Tim Hortons, how on earth has this company gotten so big? My goodness, sugar really sells, who knew! I find it hilarious that the food we love is so bad for us. Ironic for sure.
Drive throughs, until we have electric cars these things need to be done away with. In Canada it is so bad at a Tim's in the morning that roads are being blocked. Has everyone forgotten how to make coffee? Do you really think it's faster going through a drive through?
Rush hour, why oh why do we ALL have to go to work at the same time. When I was a trucker the same thing. Drag your wagon to the shipper first thing or miss the load. Nothing like a big truck trying to turn left in rush hour! A day in a life, wake up, shower, drive to Tim's for coffee and wait in line, crawl through traffic to job, get fired for being late, get stuck behind a big truck, go back to Tim's for 2nd cup, apply for job at Tim's, get hired, go home and start again tomorrow.
Dam, I'm bitching again! Well maybe that is how it will work. Me, I find a lot of humour in all this, as being "ironic" really is funny. No one is that serious are they??
7 billion and counting

Sock company growth

I dont know about you but my socks simply do not last. I know I'm not the first to point this out, but is the only way these companies can grow is to make their products worse? This is a trend that is getting out of hand. In order to show growth you make your stuff cheaper so we have to come back to buy more. But even the better stuff I buy does not last.
Being good, or great does nothing for the stock price.
Take Apple for instance, in a world of crappy windows devices Apple makes things that are VERY good, yet their stock gets hammered! For a normal working person this is hard to understand.
Car companies that do nothing to stop theft is another. The amount of money lost on car theft is mind boggling! Stopping it would be not that hard. Find my iPhone for example would be easy to do on cars.
No, by doing that the economy would suffer, car salesman would not make much money and sock companies would go bust.

The water supply

Okay so maybe you have an issue with humans being ironic, well please tell me how many other living creatures go about destroying the very thing they need to keep alive!
On the CBC in documentaries you need to watch, Last Call from the Oasis. This is one scary piece on the state of the worlds water supply. then I read this today, Mexico City's Mile-Deep Aquifer Tapping Suggests U.S. Is ...
Only humans can be this ironic, and well stupid! Although I don't like using the word stupid it's hard to come up with a better word to describe the lunacy that the people in power do with our most important commodity. It is very hard for us to claim to be intelligent when we do these kind of things to our environment.
But if you watch the documentary what I found to be really interesting is the cooperation of "enemies" when it came to water issues. Again, the ironic human, shows up. Many have predicted wars being waged over water, but it looks more like cooperation then wars, it's like they call recess to talk about this then go back to killing each other. Yep, 7 billion and counting.

Animal Lovers

For those of you who do not know me, I'm a vegan, well mostly vegan as I do eat eggs and have a tough time passing cookies without having one. Outside of that I eat mostly greens and fruit. So it was reported on the news that a local pet store in a small town had donated oxygen masks to the fire department to help save pets in a fire. A really great idea.
But then it occurred to me that these same people are meat eaters. How can you be an animal lover and still eat meat? How can you pretend not to notice how horrible these animals are treated? And with these new concentrated feeding lots the risk to local water supplies is at an all time high!
If you trully love animals, don't eat them. I'm still amazed at the backlash I receive when I tell people I don't eat dead animals. "Oh my, aren't you hungry?" Or better yet, "how do you get your protein".
The responses go on and on, but yet they claim to be animal lovers. Cook any dog lately?

Back to the Future

The most ironic thing we have to deal with is progress. The better we get at things, the more efficient we get the less jobs there will be. A new economy needs to be invented as our current one is going to run out of gas soon, maybe sooner then we would like to think.
I can't help but laugh when I see governments talk about cutting programs and increasing jobs at the same time. "We will slash the deficit and create more jobs if you vote us in"
hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes sir, this is the biggest Ironic of them all!

Birth Control and Religion

I get it and I don't. I get the need to control women, and this is what I see when it comes to religious people trying to stop birth control. The last line of defence to oppressing their rights. Lets face it, if women are caring for babies they have no time to be engaged, and the poor hapless husband who needs to work his but off to pay for it all. Yep, keep those pesants buried in the day to day activities of family. And of coarse in the old days it was to grow more armies to fight with, we need more babies now go home and pitter pater! All religions do this, it keeps women off balance and in place.
But just how many babies do we need????? 7 billion and counting, yep we need more Catholics, and most certainly more Muslims for what I'm not sure.
No we need women, we need women to fix this mess that men have made. I believe this with all my heart. Of coarse the question that needs to be asked is this, if the roles were reversed would women do it any different? Ironically I think the answer is no. If you ask any stay at home dad I think you would see the role reversal in action.
But in the end, birth control is vital to our survival right now, and empowering women to decide this is the only way it will work.

The Future

Today I'm going to lay out my predictions for the future. My opinions are just that, and I won't any sleep over a bad prediction.
Wi-Fi. This will be the service that will dominate future connections to the web. And it will be free, well mostly free. This can't come soon enough for me, I know I'm not alone in hating the cell phone companies! But their towers are VERY inefficient and they cost way too much. Most homes are already wired for internet, so it seems to me that this will stretch out. If every home had a public Wi-Fi and a private one we would be able to walk down the street and never lose a signal. I feel bad for the cell phone companies, hahahaha

3 D printing. This will come quickly I think. But this tech is off the charts in disruption potential. This tech could literally wipe out thousands upon thousands of jobs. And there isn't a thing anyone can do to stop it. I will put up only one example, printing houses with a large 3D printer. Truly this device would solve pretty much all the worlds housing problems and do it cheaply. This is just the tip of what it will do. And these devices are already in test mode, just you wait and see what this will do!

Direct Investing. Stock traders beware, the future will bring direct investment to your living room. Like Shark Tank and Dragons Den you will be able to invest directly with start-ups by-passing stock brokers  altogether. This would make for a great retirement job, buying and selling stakes in small companies. I for one want this now!

Now these 3 examples are enough to trigger your imagination as to what is coming. It is going to be cool and exciting and scary all at the same time. Personally, I'm excited.

In a hurry to nowhere

How fast is your car, bike or life? One things for certain, most people can't wait to get there, and are willing to do anything to be there first. If Tiger's indiscretions weren't enough Lance came along to really put a nail in it.
Like a lot of other people I do not follow this sport very much. My goodness, there are more cars on the race then bikes it seems. I can't imagine how disgusting it must be to be racing uphill sucking the fumes from some chase car, then get hit by one! How is this racing, sort of like football (soccer) refs trying to make calls on the fakers. So now we all know how they do it, just cheat and may the best cheater win.
Am I mad at Lance? Hell no, this world repays cheaters and the more power to them for getting away with it. What's the term, rules made to be broken and fuck them if they can't take a joke.
No Lance came clean because he needed some limelight, 40+ and not front and centre anymore was more then he could handle. And kudos' to Oprah for getting the interview, her network needed it.

The greed in sports

Now that the hockey strike is over can anyone say they won? Not only will they never get the money lost back but we will be forced to watch a congested number of games and all the injuries that will come with that. And we will be forced to watch playoffs that reach into late June!
I don't know about you but late June I'm working in my garden and planning holidays. I lose interest after the end of May, but up to the end of May I am glued to the TV. Same thing in baseball, the "boys of summer" are playing into November! Yep, prime time for baseball, +1c with a wind chill and they want us to watch what should be the very best in this sport compete. And hockey, the players trying to skate on slush in June.
All this so they can get a few more games in and for the players to make a few more dollars. That is in the end what it's about, making money. Lots of money, not satisfied with good money, it has to be buckets of it. Who cares if we have to watch these games in what should be the off season, we want more money!!!!!!!!
This is a catch 22 for sure, as the only driving force to advertising on television is live sports. No one watches games taped, at least I can't. If it happened yesterday just show me the highlights.
It really is maddening to be caught up in a great playoff only to be turned off of it because of the weather.
Me, I think a shortened season would bring in as much money as they could charge more per game. The games would be more important making them more intense. That is the trouble with greed, they only see more as an option.

An e-mail to the world

There are a lot of people out there waiting for "God " to appear and take them away to where there is no garbage of pollution and let them float on a breeze.
So the ironic question is, how would he tell us he's here?
Well if he is as great as they make him out to be then he should send everyone an e-mail that can't be deleted and written in all languages with a video clip telling all 7 billion of us how it"s going to happen. But in the meantime he should send everyone a note telling them to "clean up their acts" and stop making such a mess! Because he's decided to wait a while and see just how fucked up we make this place before he takes anyone with him.
Hope he reads my blog.

Opposites

So after I posted yesterdays blog I came upon this piece.
This piece should be required reading in school, what do you think?

Ive been thinking about opposites of late, like why we even think about this at all. It seems to me the "ironic" difference between us and most other life forms. How many times have you taken up the alternate side of an argument or discussion just because? Is this the hardwired thing that makes us social? I can clearly remember doing school lessons on this subject in grade school and I remember enjoying it as answers came easy.
Now it's not always the opposite but the driving force to be different where most life forms are all consumed with survival, we strive to be different, to engage the "other side" even when we don't agree with the other side.
The term, "opposites attract" is really true. WE do this on purpose to start conversations, to keep things exciting. If we were in agreement with someone all the time what would we talk about?

Seven Billion

Staggering, 7 billion people trying to get along, good luck eh. One wonders just how this is possible, "it only takes two" has been shown to be so very true. And yet here we are just giving er into the 21st century. No I'm not trying to write a song, just pointing out how ironic that is. The more populated it gets the more "LSD like" living gets. Thus making it harder to show are children what to care about, or to believe in.
On that note does anyone really know, really really know? It's what made the Matrix such a good movie. There are days when you almost believe it is true.
It's a dance we make up as we go I guess.

Ironic Sanity

Look, if you want to stop rape from occurring prostitution needs to be legal, there has to be places we can go without fear to "relieve" ourselves. Just like taking a leak, walk in and relieve. I know there are people that can do this faster then going to the john, but if there is no where to go to do this the evil brain takes over.
Be honest about this, it is "THE DRIVING FORCE" of everything we do! If there was places we can go to get this "out of our systems" we would have a much safer and social place to live.
My new religion, Ironic Sanity. Remember, 7 billion and growing

Outsourcing

I had the biggest laugh today when I read someone had outsourced their job to China. He spent his day surfing the net while his job was being done in China. I'm sure that his employer was not amused, but it strikes me as a great idea. There are millions of mundane jobs being done by people who do not care. So people could give up a bit of their wages to someone who does care. Would this kind of economy work?? I'm still laughing at this, Romney I'm sure would have loved this idea.
The never ending amount of greed hit the news today as Nike factories in Indonesia were forcing employees to forgo a minimum wage increase, 4$ a day from 3.80$. Can this be true?? Yep lets just outsource the entire economy to a place where dictatorship rules. Then we can make .5 cents more per shoe.
When is growth going to stop being the only thing that matters? I mean has anyone really thought about where or how this growth is going to come? Not yet as they all put their heads in the sand relying on a algorithm to make their bonuses every year. I'm finding that most people have come out of the "must have" trance and are only buying what they need. The real fiscal cliff is coming, no jobs, no growth and then what will we do?

Introduction

My first blog, so who am I. A 57 year old white guy with too much time on my hands. But a need arose to write.
My plan is just to write whatever comes to mind, but mostly I see life from an ironic point of view. Which of coarse is what we are, ironic. And all the wonderful humor that comes with that. After years of not caring what I left behind when I go, my age has nudged me a bit, to leave something of myself for others to read. Not like there is a shortage of stuff to read. My goodness at the rate we are going the mountian of data being recorded is overwhelming. And really, is there anything I can say that will make any difference? Not really, but it relieves me to dump this out and maybe, just maybe it may make a difference.
Todays thought, bullying. The debate surrounding this is really getting on my nerves. When we cheer our sports hero's we cheer bullying. Because that is what many of them do to be successful. And if we curb this how do we learn how to deal with it? I get the sadness of someone getting bullied, pulls on my heart strings like many other people, but it will never stop and it should never stop.
How are we to learn to deal with this when we grow up? Because that is what we get everyday in one way or another.
Reminds me of how every child gets a trophy, or ribbon when competing. One needs to feel the force of losing, it adds to your culture. Maybe I'm too old school, but ALL experiences are important.
